Top Gainers Analysis
Bitcoin broke above $65,000 on July 21, a two-week high, as institutional inflows met expectations of a Fed rate pause. CoinGecko data shows BTC at $65,491 as of 14:30 UTC, up 1.5% over 24 hours. Trading volume hit $28.4 billion, above the seven-day average of $22.1 billion, pushing Bitcoin's market cap to $1.29 trillion and its dominance to 54.7%. Ethereum outpaced Bitcoin on the day. CoinMarketCap data at 10:30 AM KST shows ETH up 1.94% to $1,908.37, versus BTC's 0.87% gain to $65,284.25. Edgen data puts ETH's gain at 2.9% to $1,922.33, with total crypto market cap up 1.8% to $2.36 trillion; CoinMarketCap community data has the total at $2.31 trillion, up 1.7%, on $68.99 billion in volume. Spot Bitcoin ETFs logged a fifth straight day of inflows. Derivatives activity surged with the spot rally. CoinMarketCap data shows Bitcoin derivatives volume up 95% to $59.67 billion, with open interest up 2.36% to $49.07 billion. Options volume jumped 138% to $3.25 billion, with options open interest up 1.86% to $32.67 billion. Coinglass data shows Bitcoin futures open interest up 3.2% to $37.8 billion, with a weighted funding rate of 0.008% on major exchanges — neutral enough to leave room to run without a long squeeze. Sentiment stayed cautious despite the gains. Alternative.me's Fear and Greed Index sits at 25 on July 21, down 4 points from 29 the day before, still in "Extreme Fear." The index has held between 22 and 29 for eight days, even with the technical breakout. Polymarket traders price a 93% chance the Fed holds rates steady at its July 28-29 meeting; the contract has drawn $4.2 million in volume since January. That follows June CPI data showing headline inflation at 2.9%, below the 3.1% consensus. The Fed's decision and guidance will decide whether Bitcoin holds above $65,000 or slips back toward $62,000 support. Liquidations picked up with the move. Coinglass data shows $249 million in liquidations over 24 hours — $139 million in shorts, $110 million in longs — hitting 72,638 traders. The largest single liquidation was $7.85 million on Binance's BTCUSDT contract. Binance saw $151 million in net USDT inflows over 24 hours, per ChainCatcher, after $2.3 billion in stablecoin outflows from Binance and Bybit over the past month.
