Total DeFi TVL: $88.8B | 10 Top Chains Analyzed

DeFi total value locked is $88.8 billion across all chains, 3.3% of the $2.68 trillion total crypto market cap. Ethereum leads with $49.7 billion TVL, more than eight times Solana's $5.9 billion in second place. Ethereum's dominance compressed further this week: its share fell to 56%, down from 63.5% at the start of 2025, according to DeFiLlama data cited by Cryptoslate. Solana and Base absorbed most of the outflows, with Base climbing to tie BSC after a 12% monthly increase. DeFi Trends & Insights

Ethereum dominates DeFi with $49.7B TVL, but the fastest growth is happening outside its ecosystem, per DefiLlama data. Liquid staking protocols now command over $40B across all chains; Lido alone accounts for $29B as of August 2026. Real-world asset (RWA) protocols have surged 47% since Q1 2026 to $8.2B TVL, led by Ondo Finance and BlackRock's BUIDL fund. Lending markets show divergence. Aave V3 holds $12.4B TVL on Ethereum, while Solana's $5.9B total TVL hides Kamino's $1.8B lending pool, growing 22% month-over-month. Bitcoin layer-2s carry $4.2B TVL but remain speculative. WBTC depeg risk in lending pools gets little discussion. The bigger trend is RWA collateralization: MakerDAO's forum projects 40% of DAI backing could be RWAs by 2027, up from 18% today.
